STEEL BRIDGE SONGFEST JUNE 11 to 14 in STURGEON BAY, WI
May 22, 2009 (STURGEON BAY, WI) The Fifth Annual Steel Bridge Songfest rocks the city of Sturgeon Bay once again, June 11-14, with musicians performing at more than 15 indoor and outdoor venues. Confirmed acts include James McMurtry, Jane Wiedlin of the GOGOs, Freedy Johnston, Kim Manning of P-FUNK, Louise Goffin (daughter of Carole King), nine-year-old blues prodigy Talan “T-Man” Latz, and over 150 more bands and solo artists from across the U.S. and as far away as New Zealand.
Citizens for Our Bridge, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving the historical significance of Sturgeon Bay’s Michigan Street Bridge, hosts the annual volunteer event. Central to the festivities is the “Construction Zone,” a week-long songwriting frenzy that infuses the festival with a slew of new songs each year. The songs are performed on stage and recorded on site, then made available for sale at local businesses and through the Steel Bridge website (www.SteelBridgeSongfest.org)
"That old steel bridge stands as Sturgeon Bay’s most recognizable icon, and is arguably the most significant structure in Door County," says pat mAcdonald, Steel Bridge Songfest co-founder and organizer. "For years, residents and tourists have recognized it as a welcoming sign to the city of Sturgeon Bay and northern Door County. Now, it's been inspiring songwriters, and our ever-growing collection of songs not only spreads the word, but also helps raise money to benefit the historic preservation of Sturgeon Bay.”
For a detailed schedule and complete listing of performers, visit the Steel Bridge website. The basic schedule is:
Thursday Night, June 11 (8pm-1:30am): ”Door County Appreciation Night” Free Pub Crawl. Artists from all over perform in bars, coffee houses and patios. Includes five all-ages venues. A rotating shuttle connects all venues.
Friday and Saturday Nights, June 12-13 (4pm-2am Friday; 9pm-2am Saturday) Weekend Pub Crawl. Artists perform in numerous downtown venues, including 9 all-ages. Passes, which guarantee entrance to all venues and the connecting shuttle, are $25 through the Steel Bridge website. NOTE: Some shows at some venues will be for pass-holders only.
Saturday and Sunday, June 13 & 14 (11am-9pm Saturday, 11am-5pm Sunday) "Take It To The Bridge!" Free Street festival with outdoor performances at the foot of the historic bridge with Jane Wiedlin, James McMurtry, Freedy Johnston, Kim Manning from P-Funk, and many others.
